Krampe test tippers absorbed into the business fleet

The German compost hauling company Hahn put three Krampe tippers through their paces hauling different recycling materials: the KS 900 tipping trailer and the KS 950 its lower-weight aluminium sibling plus the extra-long THL 25 L tridem hook lift trailer, which is currently still being tested by Hahn. The KS 900 and KS 950 already passed their tests with flying colours and have been added to the Hahn fleet.

The family-run business is based near the city of Regensburg in southern Germany. It evolved from a farm and now specialises in the processing and recycling of organic waste material and also produces and sells woodchips. The business is booming and there is a growing demand from both private and business customers, who run their heating plants with woodchips. Every day, the company produces 800 m³ of woodchips, which are sourced from the forests of the House of Thurn und Taxis when trees fall prey to the infamous bark beetle or from former military training sites, where pine trees are cut and processed.

The Krampe KS 900 tipping trailer came to the company as a demonstration model in early 2016 and served in the woodchips transport fleet. “The tipping trailer has a capacity of 47 m³ and so we can carry a lot of material in one haul,” says the driver of the KS 900. “In addition, it has great off-road capabilities, which allows us to go directly into the forest and get the woodchips on the site, which saves us a lot of time.”

The company also tested the new aluminium tipping semi trailer KS 950 right after this was launched in late 2016. They tested, approved and bought it. “The KS 950 usually runs in the woodchips fleet, but it has also hauled peat, compost, sand, wood and recycling material,” tells the driver of the KS 950. “It’s pneumatic suspension and the automatic lowering function increases the stability during unloading and ensures smooth rides.”

Another business activity is compost, which is usually handled in containers. To make more efficient use of the containers and also of the tractors that are actually needed in the field, the company is currently testing a Krampe THL tridem hook lift trailer with a lifting capacity of 25 t, which is the new and longer version of the THL 25 L. Equipped with a foldable underride guard, this gear can handle up to 8.5 m long containers, which is perfect, because Hahn usually handles approximately 8 m long containers.

So far, the hook lift trailer has served in the grain and woodchips fleets. Its great advantage is that it can dump the container at the filling site and go on to pick up another one, avoiding unproductive waits and helping operators to be more efficient.

There are more Krampe tippers available for testing than just the three models featured here. Currently, there are three Krampe KS 950 aluminium tipping trailers touring Germany to give a demonstration of their skills.
