Krampe Tridem tippers going strong for more than 20 years

For many years we have observed that farmers and contractors are going for higher transport capacities and efficiencies, longer travel distances, as well as for more powerful tractors. Responding to this trend at a very early stage, Krampe introduced the first Tridem body tippers exactly 20 years ago – a landmark on three axles at that time.

20 years ago, the Krampe Tridem trailer was still an exception but today it has become a familiar feature in fields and on public roads. Although there were no suitable hitch rings on the market at that time (the ball hitch was ‘invented’ many years later) the engineers at Krampe would not be discouraged and developed a 34 t Tridem trailer – one of the very first Tridem trailers that were approved for travel on public roads. Offering a tongue load of 4 tonnes and a maximum speed of 40 km/h, this machine was a pioneer in 1996.

Far from being just a Tandem trailer that was simply given a third axle, a Tridem trailer offers a very different driving experience and so safety and operator comfort are very high on Krampe’s agenda and lead to high-quality running gears. Parabolic springs and hydraulic suspension are now supplemented by pneumatic systems. The traditional forced steering systems for the front and rear axle is added by an electronic forced steering system.

But the Tridem axles have conquered not only the body tippers but are also available on other machines of the Krampe product range as well, including the hook-lift trailers, the hook-lift semi trailers, the conveyor belt floor trailers, and the earth moving tippers.

The most recent development is the Krampe heavy-duty SK 800 Tridem tipper, which was added to the Krampe sand and gravel tipper range at the end of 2014. This is Krampe’s first heavy-duty tipper that is specified with pneumatic suspension as a standard feature.

Tridem trailers operate not only in Germany but more and more in other European countries. Krampe scores on 20 years of experience in a field where competitors are just beginning to invent the ‘third wheel’.
